At their meeting on Tuesday (August 4), several committee members expressed their dislike for the plans but said they could not find a legal planning reason to reject them. The homes, at 33 Julians Road, are still under construction and can now be used as five-bedroom HMOs. Cllr Peter Wilkins said he doesn’t “particularly like the concentration of HMOs” but couldn’t “see anything materially in planning” to go against a recommendation from officers that they should approve the development. “There has been significant local opposition and I have to say … I would probably be writing the same sort of letter if I was in their position.” Cllr Julie-Ashley Wren said the buildings themselves are “incredibly beautiful” but added she was “incredibly sad” they would be turned into HMOs rather than being used as family homes.
