A full planning application (number 262040 ) shows the new store would occupy what is currently a rough paddock east of the Barons Cross Inn. According to a statement with the application, “2,300 new homes are proposed to the southwest and a new Lidl store could provide retail amenity to support this.” Herefordshire Council currently says it aims to decide on the bid by October 28, though this may be moved back. Lidl already has two branches in Hereford and is currently seeking permission for another by the Over Ross roundabout northeast of Ross-on-Wye. It also has outline permission for a new store southwest of Ledbury as part of a mixed scheme involving a new nursery and medical centre.
