Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale clarified that the mandatory health cover for international visitors is not a new policy.
The requirement draws its authority from Section 26(6) of the Social Health Insurance Act, 2023, and is reinforced by Regulation 70(1) of the Social Health Insurance Regulations, 2024.
11492, incoming travellers must hold a policy with a total minimum insurable value of USD 50,000 (approximately KSh 6.4 million).
Applicants must upload proof of a valid travel health insurance policy during their eTA application, before departure.
For those who arrive without compliant cover, Regulation 70(3) of the Social Health Insurance Regulations, 2024 allows insurance to be purchased at the point of entry from an insurer licensed under Kenya's Insurance Act.
