The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) cautions that Namibia Air’s newly issued air operating licence (AOL) should not be mistaken for approval to begin commercial flights, warning that critical regulatory, operational and financial requirements remain outstanding. Kalangula questions the government’s target of launching commercial flights by December, saying the licensing process has already taken eight months instead of the usual two, raising concerns over whether the remaining certification process can be completed in time. “The government must demonstrate compliance with key aviation requirements, including appointing qualified management, securing certified aircraft and maintenance arrangements, and establishing fully equipped operational facilities before an AOC can be granted,” he says. IPC also calls on minister of works and transport Veikko Nekundi to publish the N$20 million feasibility study. The party urges parliament to exercise oversight over the certification process, warning that political announcements should not override aviation safety regulations.
