Overall, the plan sets priorities, making Archer Avenue more of a regional destination by making the corridor safer to traverse, adding public spaces and supporting events. The local contextThe portion of the Archer Avenue within the study area runs through Bridgeport, McKinley Park, Brighton Park, Archer Heights and Garfield Ridge neighborhoods. The city is adding protected bike lanes, pedestrian refugee islands and new crosswalks on the section of Archer Avenue between Western Avenue and 47th Street. The bike lanes reduced on-street parking, leading some Archer Avenue businesses to complain that reduction in street parking hurt their customer base. At Halsted station, CTA hopes to add a signalized pedestrian crosswalk to the other side of Archer Avenue.
