According to a report by the Telegraph, members of the Corsican National Liberation Front – Union of Combatants (FLNC-UC) appeared in a video released Thursday, August 6. The group’s leader, speaking with a disguised voice, said that as long as what he called Corsica’s “national rights” go unrecognized and unrespected, the message to anyone choosing to settle on the island is clear: “stay in your own homes.” Separatists argue the bill fails to adequately recognize the existence of the Corsican people. The bill has already been approved by the French National Assembly in June and is expected to go before the Senate in the fall. Available demographic data show Corsica’s population has grown significantly in recent years.
