Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan have signed a landmark joint defence pact declaring that an armed attack on any one of the three countries will be regarded as an attack on all. Saudi Arabia has faced attacks from Iran as well as the Houthis in Yemen and armed groups in Iraq. Reuters reported that Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan are also concerned about Israel’s increasingly aggressive regional military posture. Foreign ministers from Turkiye, Egypt, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have held a series of consultations through the four-country R4 grouping, most recently meeting in Cairo in June.
