Council fears risk of development at Swindon's Lydiard park

Lydiard Tregoze Parish Council has applied to Wiltshire Council to list Lydiard Country Park as an Asset of Community Value.
The application applies only to the part of the historic house and gardens that lie in Wiltshire.
The parish council said: "This nomination clearly demonstrates that Lydiard Country Park fulfils this statutory purpose, and it is realistic to expect that such community use will continue."
Swindon Corporation, the predecessor to Swindon Borough Council, acquired Lydiard House and Park for £4,500 - £280,000 in today's money.
"Any western urban extension would therefore need to be located away from Lydiard Park and its environs.”
