The River Yare (Image: Denise Bradley)Lucy Galvin, Norwich's new Green council leader, had previously sounded the alarm over the state of the River Wensum, warning the waterway is in "crisis" and the "worst state it's ever been". The Wensum, which is more than 45 miles long, rises near Colkirk before merging with the River Yare at Whitlingham. Anglian Water statistics also show River Wensum was polluted by sewage 176 times in 2025.
