In one Minnesota city, vigilantes bypassed spray paint entirely and simply sawed down the police department’s entire fleet of tracking cameras.
After an officer noted there had been “no recent activity” from the city’s network of Flock cameras, the department dispatched units to check the four highway locations where the hardware was installed.
When police arrived at the intersections—located along Highway 61, Highway 14, and Highway 43—they discovered a highly coordinated sabotage operation.
City governments in places like Fort Collins, Colorado; Eugene, Oregon; and Madison, Wisconsin have actively deactivated their Flock cameras or canceled their contracts entirely following public outcry.
As for the missing Winona cameras, the police investigation remains active and ongoing.
