Statistics Canada said on Friday the unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in two years to 6.4 per cent. Average hourly wages were up 2.8 per cent in July year-over-year, though it decelerated from 3.3 per cent growth in June. The unemployment rate among young people remained virtually unchanged in July at 12.6 per cent, Statistics Canada said, which is down 1.9 percentage points from a year ago.
