Students demonstrate handloom craftsmanship through live weaving and immersive displaysBilkul OnlineAhmedabad | 07 Aug 2026Marking National Handloom Day, students of the Textile Design discipline at the National Institute of Design (NID) organised an engaging exhibition and interactive session at the institute’s Old Canteen, celebrating India’s rich handloom traditions and showcasing the artistry behind handcrafted textiles. The exhibits included ikat, Bhujodi weaving, dhurrie weaving, as well as structural weaving experiments such as double cloth and leno weaving, among several others. The accompanying interactive session focused on introducing visitors to the fundamentals of handloom weaving and the varied weaving traditions practised across different regions of India. Students explained that handloom weaving is far more than simply weaving by hand—it is a highly skilled craft that demands precision, rhythm, patience and exceptional hand-eye coordination. By bringing together demonstrations, discussions and interactive experiences, the exhibition served as a meaningful tribute to the country’s vibrant weaving legacy on the occasion of National Handloom Day.
