The High Street car park was built in the 1970s to accommodate drivers coming into Bracknell, providing a convenient place to stop for shoppers and workers. The car park was linked to the Princess Square shopping centre when it opened in 1984. A decision on the demolition of the car park has to be made by Bracknell Forest Council's planning committee. Leanne Philbey said: “We all knew that's why they really closed the car park, as if we need more flats!” Demolition of the car park is being pursued by the Bracknell Forest Cambium Partnership, a joint venture between the council and Countryside Homes.
