MANDAN — A former Mandan man who led the North Dakota Game and Fish Department was ordered to serve two years on supervised probation after previously pleading guilty to a misdemeanor sex crime under a plea agreement.
South Central District Judge Marina Spahr, seen Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, accepted a plea agreement that called for Terry Steinwand to be sentenced to probation rather than jailed.
Spahr said she would accept the plea agreement and impose a sentence that falls in line with the proposal.
Neither the charge, agreement nor sentence will require Steinwand to register as a sex offender, according to Suhr.
ADVERTISEMENTSteinwand retired in July 2021 after a four-decade career with Game and Fish, including 15 years as director.
