An RTX 5090 owner has released an open-source Windows utility designed to reduce the risk of sustained 12VHPWR connector overheating on selected ASUS ROG Astral graphics cards. The software, named 12VHPWR Guard, reads the individual current telemetry exposed by the ITE IT8915FN monitoring controller fitted to compatible ROG Astral cards. Compatibility is currently limited to ROG Astral products because most RTX graphics cards do not expose individual current measurements for each 12VHPWR pin. Supported subsystem IDs include the ROG Astral RTX 5090 OC, RTX 5090D OC, RTX 5090 Matrix, RTX 5090 LC and RTX 5080 OC. It therefore cannot simply be installed on an arbitrary RTX 5090.
