Paul Pears, of Melford Drive, Runcorn, was found unresponsive by his partner at their home on Sunday, June 7.
An inquest was opened into Mr Pears' death at Cheshire Coroner’s Court in Warrington on Wednesday.
It was heard that his partner had witnessed him drinking alcohol on the evening of his death.
He was found hours later unresponsive and two bottles of Oramorph, a liquid form of morphine, were found at the side of his bed.
Cheshire coroner Victoria Davies formerly opened an inquest into his death; due to the fact there is ‘reason to suspect an unnatural cause of death’.
