Calls for famous town centre statues to be restored to their former glory

The man shared images of the William Gladstone statue in Blackburn town centre, outside King George's Hall, saying the ‘stained and weathered’ look felt as if the ‘great’ monuments of Blackburn were being ignored.
Blackburn town centre has undergone major changes in recent years, including a new bus station and Cathedral Quarter.
He points to the weathered statue of former Prime Minister, William Gladstone, as a symbol of this.
The man, who did not wish to be named, said: “I don’t often get into Blackburn town centre these days, so it was a rare visit.
"Due to the specialist nature of the work, services are commissioned on an ad hoc basis when restoration, conservation or maintenance needs arise.
