The Louisiana Department of Health said the state has recorded nine total cases of Vibrio vulnificus in 2026, with all nine patients hospitalized and five of them ultimately dying from the infection.
Vibrio infections can result in a range of illness, from general gastrointestinal illness and wound infections to more severe bloodstream infections, or sepsis.
