With upcoming elections, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) reminds campaigners that state law prohibits placement of political signs or any advertising on highway rights-of-way. More information about signs on state right-of-way can be found on the MnDOT website ( https://www.dot.state.mn.us/govrel/rw_signs.html?utm_content=&utm_medium=email&utm_name=&utm_source=govdelivery&utm_term= ). ADVERTISEMENTState law requires MnDOT workers to take down political or advertising signs located on the right-of-way. In addition, state law says that signs may not be placed on private land without the consent of the landowner. State law also prohibits placing advertising materials on public utility poles, trees and shrubs, and painting or drawing on rocks or natural features.
