From Deputy to Defense Boss: Gilbert Adjei returns to lead ministry where he once served number two

Nearly a decade after he walked out of Ghana's Ministry of Defense as its second in command, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei is walking back in, this time to sit at the head of the table.
Because Adjei was already vetted and approved by Parliament as Works and Housing Minister, his move to Defense does not require a fresh vetting.
He was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense in 2015 and served until January 2017, when the National Democratic Congress handed power to the Akufo-Addo administration.
In the 2026 Budget, the Ministry of Defense was handed a 69 percent funding increase for a comprehensive retooling of the Ghana Armed Forces to strengthen defence readiness.
He moves to Defense from the Works, Housing and Water Resources portfolio.
