In a statement issued on National Handloom Day, Reddy extended greetings to weavers and others associated with the sector. The minister said the textile sector was among the largest employment‑generating industries after agriculture, providing jobs to nearly five crore people across the country. In a separate statement, BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao called for collective support to the handloom sector in the spirit of ‘Swadeshi’ and Prime Minister Modi’s “Vocal for Local—Local to Global” campaign. Greeting weavers, artisans and their families, he said Narayanpet, Kothakota, Gadwal, Pochampally and Sircilla were internationally renowned for their handloom products. Rao urged people to voluntarily buy and wear handloom clothes to support weaver families and promote indigenous textiles globally.
