Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday informed the High Court that it sterilised 77,146 stray dogs, vaccinated 80,056 and shifted 3,041 dogs to 123 shelters across the state between January and June 2026. A Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Lisa Gill heard a suo motu writ petition initiated following directions issued by the Supreme Court on implementing animal birth control measures and administering anti-rabies vaccines. In an affidavit filed before the court, Chief Secretary K. Sai Prasad said the government had proposed establishing 21 more dog shelters and had stocked 9.13 lakh anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) doses at Primary Health Centres across the state.
