HYDERABAD: In a major nationwide crackdown, cyber crime police arrested 49 persons across 15 states in July in connection with 25 cases, while facilitating refunds of ₹98.89 lakh to victims. Officials said 70 FIRs were registered based on complaints received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). Trading fraud emerged as the most prevalent offence, accounting for 29 of the accused, followed by social media fraud, digital arrest scams and WhatsApp display picture (DP) fraud. Financial data revealed that cyber fraudsters caused losses exceeding ₹13.87 crore across 38 cases, with trading fraud alone accounting for over ₹11.75 crore. Cyber patrol teams intensified monitoring, identifying 128 social media profiles promoting illegal activities, including fake investment schemes and online exploitation.
