TIRUPATI: A 70-year-old devotee from Karnataka has died while five others were injured when the car in which they were travelling crashed through a roadside railing and plunged into a gorge on the first Tirumala ghat road on Friday. According to officials, the driver reportedly lost control of the speeding vehicle, which rammed into the protective railing before falling about 15 feet into the gorge. The five injured occupants, including two children, were shifted to SVIMS hospital in Tirupati for treatment. Police, along with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) security and vigilance personnel, rushed to the spot and carried out the rescue operation with the assistance of local residents. Tirumala police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
