The competition, which celebrates the quality and efficiency of commercial suckler herds across the county, is once again being supported by local veterinary practices. Sponsored by Erne Veterinary Group, represented by Chris Welsh, the Suckler Herd Competition offers a first prize of £500, with £300 awarded to the runner-up and £200 for third place. The competition also includes the Breeding Heifer Derby, sponsored by Lakeland Veterinary Services and represented by Innes Redmond. Open to farmers who have entered the herd competition, the derby is designed to recognise the best groups of homebred breeding heifer replacements. The Breeding Heifer Derby carries a prize fund of £500, with £250 for first place, £150 for second and £100 for third.
