Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has made the application for the CCTV to be installed inside the door of Cole’s Monument and on Plunkett’s Bandstand facing the monument. The Council says this has been determined to be ‘the best method of protecting the monument and the public’. The popular heritage attraction suffered damage on May 23 and 24 this year and it led to planned guided tours being postponed. At the time, a statement from the Council said: "Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is disappointed to report that Cole's Monument in Enniskillen has been vandalised. "As a result of the damage caused, essential repair works are now required and unfortunately the heritage site will not be able to open for guided tours as planned this weekend.
