Ms McIlveen said the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) must now provide complete clarity on the legal basis for the cull. While acknowledging that the Minister's written statement had provided additional information, the former Agriculture Minister said important issues remained unresolved. "In particular, there needs to be complete clarity about the legal basis upon which DAERA carried out this operation," she said. "Equally, if DAERA sought such an order, the Department should explain the evidence that was presented to the court to justify it." She revealed she has written to the professional body requesting that it investigates the Fivemiletown case.
