An association representing Quebec construction companies is asking the political parties to make building housing a priority ahead of the provincial elections this fall. “Quebecers want to be able to find affordable housing, gain easier access to homeownership, and live in high-quality homes,” APCHQ said in a press release. The organization says the next government should create a “super ministry” for housing which broad powers to coordinate various government agencies and work municipalities and private organisations, said APCHQ which represents over 28,000 housing construction and renovation businesses in Quebec. “The APCHQ’s recommendations are specifically aimed at removing the barriers that slow down construction, supporting the renovation of the housing stock, and creating the conditions necessary to build more accessible and sustainable housing,” the APCHQ said. It also called for passing legislation to support buying from Quebec and Canadian suppliers and innovations like pre-fab housing and energy-efficient buildings.
