Tbilisi City Court has sentenced the imprisoned co-founder of the opposition Ahali party, Nika Melia, to one and a half more years in prison for allegedly calling a judge ‘a dick’.
Melia was charged with insulting Judge Tornike Kochkiani during a court hearing in 2025.
Judge Nino Elieshvili, who handed Melia his latest sentence on Thursday, absorbed the conviction into the sentence Melia was already serving, and did not extend his time in jail.
During the trial, he threw water on a judge for not showing any interest in him being ‘kidnapped’ a day before.
The authorities have accused them of radicalisation in streets, calling for revolution, calling for the government to be overthrown, and incitement to confront police officers.
