Firefighters made significant headway Thursday on a pair of North Coast wildfires as crews worked to extinguish lingering hot spots. The Press Democrat reports in Mendocino County, the 872-acre Feliz Fire west of Hopland reached 85% containment, allowing CAL FIRE to release most out-of-area resources. Meanwhile, in Sonoma County, the Woodside Fire near Salt Point State Park reached 90% containment after burning 152 acres and damaging several structures. Highway 1 remains open, though crews are continuing to clear fire-damaged trees along the roadway before transitioning both incidents to patrol status over the weekend. The causes of both blazes remain under investigation.
