Once upon a time, the vast majority of an artist’s repertoire was carved out by their live performances, and songs were written explicitly to be performed in front of audiences. With the production experimentation that denoted the more exciting releases of the 1960s came the de-prioritisation of live performance in favour of expansive, multi-track studio compositions. Much to the ire of live music fans, then, there are a plethora of legendary songs that have either been retired from live performances or have never been attempted in the first place.
