Yankees: George Lombard Jr. Will Succeed Where Anthony Volpe Failed
['Sébastien Berrouard']

Immediately after the MLB trade deadline, the New York Yankees sent Anthony Volpe down to Triple-A to make room for his successor, the young George Lombard Jr.
First of all, Lombard has a stronger arm and greater range at shortstop than Volpe.
And while it's too early to say how he'll handle the New York spotlight, he's already showing greater confidence in stepping into the shoes of a Yankees shortstop.
While Volpe posted an on-base percentage of .313 at the AAA level before making his Major League debut, Lombard has a .405 on-base percentage at that same level this year.
It's highly unlikely that Lombard Jr. will experience the same decline in the majors.
