Seattle venues demand more security cameras. City Council moves to spend camera money on ‘violence interrupters’ instead

The move comes as Seattle City Hall faces mounting pressure over public safety and its decision to keep the camera program on hold.
The previously approved funding was intended to expand cameras on Capitol Hill, near Garfield High School and in the Chinatown-International District.
Nine positions previously approved as part of the camera expansion also remain vacant while those reviews continue.
Hollingsworth described the $250,000 as a one-time investment, rather than a permanent abandonment of the camera program.
The money would help expand violence-interruption ambassadors into neighborhoods including Capitol Hill, First Hill and the Central District.
