Chamber Chat: Redistricting Impacts on the Eastern ShoreSALISBURY, Md.
– In this week’s Chamber Chat, WMDT’s John Trout and Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce President Bill Chambers discussed potential impacts to the Eastern Shore following Maryland’s passage of House Bill 2100, which sends new standards governing congressional redistricting to the ballot this fall.
Maryland’s representation in the U.S. House of Representatives currently consists of seven Democrats and one Republican — Congressman Andy Harris, who represents District 1, which encompasses the entirety of the Eastern Shore.
“Whether it’s intentional or unintentional, redistricting will potentially disenfranchise a million voters on the Eastern Shore who have ‘R’ next to their name,” Bill argued.
“Obviously, she’s representing her constituents in Somerset — and those folks are conservative Republicans,” Bill remarked.
