Greg Abbott announced Friday that Texas is awarding more than $5.6 million in grants to help nursing schools expand and improve education programs aimed at addressing the state’s growing demand for nurses.
The funding will support 24 innovative nursing education projects across Texas.
The grants are designed to help schools increase enrollment, expand training opportunities and prepare more students to enter the healthcare workforce.
Abbott said the investment will strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce by helping educate more highly trained nurses to meet the needs of Texas communities.
The grants are administered through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and are intended to encourage new approaches to nursing education while increasing the number of graduates entering the profession.
