The Samajwadi Party (SP) has kept the alleged Ayodhya Ram Temple donation theft issue on the forefront not just in Parliament but also in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
However, the party has drawn a clear line: target the BJP but keep the temple and saints out of the controversy.
The BJP has long projected the episode as evidence of the SP’s opposition to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
It has also accused the SP of boycotting the Ram Temple consecration ceremony in 2024.
Party leaders say that makes it imperative to avoid being seen as hostile to Ram or the temple, even while seeking to hold the BJP politically accountable over developments linked to Ayodhya.
