The Congress Government in Karnataka, headed by new chief minister D K Shivakumar, on Wednesday granted in-principle approval to a proposal to split the Bengaluru city police into five smaller commissionerates, and create 6,633 new posts.
There are also reservations over the proposal to create a Super City Commissioner post of the rank of Director General of Police (DGP).
Reason for splitting Bengaluru commissionerateThe primary reason cited for dividing the Bengaluru city police commissionerate is the rapid expansion of the city, which now covers nearly 1,294 sq km.
