Hampshire police deployed the technology in Eastleigh's town centre, where it was used to help identify suspects. The technology was used in partnership with the specialist team, between 10am and 3pm on July 22. They added: "Facial recognition can scan crowds to identify suspects at a rate and with a level of accuracy that cannot be replicated by officers on the ground. Instead, the technology generates a biometric facial template from live footage and compares it to those on the watchlist. A spokesperson for Hampshire police added that officers were out in the town centre completing tasks alongside the facial recognition session.
