The University of Southampton’s 1,100-bed Mayflower Halls in West Park Road will not be open in September.
The closure of the accommodation is due to a recently discovered issue with the water mains system.
A University of Southampton spokesperson said: “A water mains failure means Mayflower Halls will not be available for occupation in September.
However, the University of Southampton told the Local Democracy Reporting Service said the water mains issue means Mayflower Halls will not be open when the majority of academic studies resume next month.
Mayflower Halls opened its doors in September 2014 and provides different types of rooms across three blocks, ranging from nine to 17 storeys in height.
