The event begins with a memorial ceremony, and each climber will carry the name and photo of a first responder who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks as they make the climb. Messages of encouragement from local students will line the stairwell. The climb is open to active and retired firefighters, law enforcement officers, military personnel, EMS providers and other first responders, as well as members of the public climbing in honor of a loved one. Participants must be at least 18 years old, and registration is $40.
