Davie Taylor of Logie battled through the blazing heat during the height of the Dava wildfire in 2025. Despite suffering a broken back just years earlier, the 79-year-old spent 25 gruelling days battling the flames. Following three days of round-the-clock firefighting, he then spent the next 22 days digging out and dousing burning peat hotspots using 5-gallon drums of water. Speaking publicly about the Dava wildfire for the first time, Mr Taylor said: “It is just something you do. “He just stuck at it, day after day, at nearly 80 years old.He wasn’t going to leave peat burning there.
