Longtime Milledgeville mayor Walter B. Williams Jr. passed away on June 5, 1981, at the age of 61. Today’s topic is Williams, whose contributions to our city as a developer and as the mayor are numerous. Eugenia was like a second mother to Ed, and Walter became like a second father. Walter bought a station wagon so Ed could drive supplies purchased in Milledgeville back to the motel on Jekyll Island. Fittingly, the Walter B. Williams Park recreation complex off highways 441 and 22 is named in his honor.
