Wright has denied taking or killing the child. Prosecutor Jonas Hankin KC told the jury at the start of the trial that the Crown cannot offer any motive for the murder of the child, but that circumstantial evidence points to Wright as the only person who could be responsible. But no eye-witnesses or forensics have linked Wright to the murder. According to the Crown, the case is purely circumstantial, based entirely on Wright being the only possible culprit, given that the child disappeared from her bed in the early morning hours and there was no sign of a break-in. This, together with inconsistencies in his statements and his behaviour on the morning Alissady disappeared, made Wright the killer, the Crown has argued.
