The Shoreline Developers Association of Lagos (SDAL) has urged government and private investors to harness the state’s coastal resources through sustainable development and long-term planning.
SDAL President, Lai Omotola made the call in his inaugural address, in Maryland, Lagos, on Friday.
He noted that beyond land reclamation, shoreline development presents opportunities in fisheries, renewable energy, wind farms, coastal railways, marinas, high-value port logistics and eco-tourism.
The SDAL President stressed that shoreline development must be science-driven, environmentally responsible and aligned with global best practices to address challenges such as rising sea levels, storm surges and groundwater extraction.
Omotola called for increased funding for modern technology and heavy equipment needed for shoreline infrastructure projects, describing access to finance and technology as major challenges facing the sector.
