CrediaBank has reported record recurring operational profits of €53.6 million for the first half of 2026, up 45% against the same period the year before, as the Greek lender prepares to acquire a majority stake in HSBC Bank Malta. News of the €200 million takeover deal of HSBC broke in September last year. Net interest income rose by a quarter to reach €98.2 million, while net fee and commission income increased by a third to €22.7 million. CrediaBank promises investment in MaltaVrettou told Times of Malta last year that CrediaBank initially declined to pursue HSBC Malta in December 2024 because it was still completing the Pancreta Bank merger. The group may eventually create additional positions by moving functions currently outsourced within HSBC into the combined bank.
