The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory through Friday evening, Aug. 7, across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and much of Connecticut. According to a Boston Globe report, the oppressive heat and humidity are the result of a strong high-pressure system sitting over the Northern Atlantic Ocean, known as a Bermuda High. This system will deliver a strong southwest flow into New England, with moisture-laden air settling across the area and sending dew points into the 60s and 70s across Southern New England. The Globe noted that high temperatures will peak on Friday but linger through Sunday. A heat wave in New England is considered when temperatures hit 90 degrees or above for three consecutive days.
