The State Police are offering a new resource for those with autism in order to improve their interactions with officers. After introducing an informational card that alerts officers that the individual has autism a couple years ago, all PSP stations will be equipped with at least five Autism Sensory Aid Bags. Each sensory bag includes headphones, a weighted blanket, sunglasses, a non-verbal communication board, a timer, fidget items, and a quick reference guide to using the items. These items are designed to help reduce anxiety, encourage self-regulation, and provide comfort during emergency, as well as non-emergency, interactions with law enforcement.
