Interim Jackson County Executive Philip LeVota has been indicted by a federal grand jury on allegations of participating in a bribery scheme connected to the 2026 election for Jackson County Executive. The charges include honest services fraud, federal program bribery, violations of the Travel Act, and making a false statement to federal law enforcement agents. Federal prosecutors contend LeVota took multiple actions intended to persuade a specific candidate to withdraw from the 2026 election for Jackson County Executive. Investigators allege the agreement called for the candidate to leave the race in exchange for both the candidate and one of the candidate’s colleagues receiving full-time positions within the Jackson County government. FBI Kansas City Special Agent in Charge Chris Ormeord said Jackson County residents deserve honesty, transparency, accountability, and integrity from those serving in public office.
