Pilot’s identity released in Harrison County plane crash

Authorities have released updated information regarding the investigation into a single-engine aircraft crash that occurred in rural Harrison County on Aug. 4, 2026.
According to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, William M. Anderson, 73, was piloting a Piper PA-24 Comanche when the aircraft crashed in a field north of Bethany at approximately 6:53 p.m.
Flight information indicates Anderson departed from Peoria, Illinois, at approximately 4:39 p.m. on Aug. 4.
The cause of the crash remains undetermined.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
