As the Kansas City Chiefs continue training camp ahead of the 2026 NFL season, quarterback Justin Fields said backing up Patrick Mahomes has provided a valuable opportunity to learn one of the NFL's most established offenses. Speaking with Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith, Fields explained that Mahomes has taken an active role in helping him understand the Chiefs' offensive system. “Any question that I have, he’s been in this offense for 10 years now so he knows every little detail,” Fields said of Mahomes. Fields also discussed embracing the unfamiliar role of serving as Mahomes' backup after spending most of his NFL career competing as a starter. In nine games with the Jets last season, Fields completed 62.7% of his passes for 1,259 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception.
